Black Hebrew Israelites
From a biblical Christian perspective, Black Hebrew Israelite (BHI) teachings are dangerous because they distort God’s Word and the identity of His people. BHI groups often claim that African Americans—or sometimes other ethnic groups—are the true descendants of Israel, rejecting the historical and spiritual truths of Scripture (Galatians 3:28–29; Romans 9:6–8). This racialized view of God’s covenant misleads people into thinking that salvation and blessing are based on ethnicity rather than faith in Jesus Christ, contradicting the Bible’s teaching that salvation is available to all who believe, Jew or Gentile (John 3:16; Acts 10:34–35).
BHI ideology is also spiritually dangerous because it frequently distorts or rejects core gospel truths, such as the deity of Christ, His sacrificial death, and the resurrection. Some BHI groups teach legalism, promote hostility toward other races, or encourage separatism, which can foster pride, division, and anger instead of humility and love as taught in Scripture (Ephesians 4:1–3; Matthew 22:37–40). By emphasizing ethnic identity and human works over faith in Christ alone, Black Hebrew Israelite teachings lead people away from the gospel and the true reconciliation with God that comes only through Jesus.

Black Hebrew Israelites
“The Hebrew Israelites are the modern descendants of the ancient Israelites. The Hebrew Israelites have been scattered to the four corners of the earth. They reside in all lands among all people, they are suffering from the curses that are found in the law books of Leviticus chapter 26 and Deuteronomy chapter 28. Today they are known by the bywords and proverbs of ‘BLACKS, AFRICAN AMERICANS, AFRO AMERICANS, NEGROES, ETC. The Hebrew Israelites are the true descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They are the priest of the Most High.”
They use Deuteronomy 28:68: “The LORD will return you to Egypt in ships…” symbolically referring to the transatlantic slave trade.
Identity
Some BHI groups teach that God’s covenant promises, salvation, blessing are reserved specifically for their interpretation of the “true” Israelites (Black, Hispanic, Native peoples). Others are outside or under negative judgment.

BHI often revere Jesus (“Yahawashi”) as the Messiah for Israelite people, but some reject orthodox Christian claims about his divinity or see him differently (e.g. not God incarnate in traditional doctrine).

Objections
1. Claim: “Only Black people are the true Israelites; all others are impostors.”
Christian Response: Scripture teaches that God’s people are those who have faith in Him, not determined by race or ethnicity (Galatians 3:28–29). Salvation is available to all nations through faith in Christ, not by skin color or lineage (Romans 10:12–13). Making race the basis of identity contradicts the biblical promise that God’s covenant extends to all who believe.
2. Claim: “Non-Black people are cursed and unworthy of salvation.”
Christian Response: The Bible explicitly teaches that Christ died for all humanity (1 John 2:2; John 3:16). Condemning people based on ethnicity directly opposes God’s mercy and grace. God shows no partiality (Acts 10:34–35); salvation is determined by faith, not ancestry.
3. Claim: “Followers of Christianity are deceived; the true faith is our version of Israelite law.”
Christian Response: The New Testament affirms that faith in Christ supersedes the works of the Law for salvation (Galatians 2:16; Romans 3:28). Observing Old Testament law cannot save anyone, because Christ’s death and resurrection fulfilled the law (Matthew 5:17; Hebrews 10:10). Replacing the gospel with legalistic observance is a distortion of Scripture.
4. Claim: “Jesus was a Black Israelite and should only be followed by those of our ethnic group.”
Christian Response: While Jesus was born into the Jewish people, the gospel repeatedly emphasizes that He came to save all nations (Matthew 28:19; Revelation 7:9). Ethnicity does not restrict access to Christ’s salvation. His blood redeems anyone who believes, regardless of race.
5. Claim: “Non-Israelites cannot be saved because they are not God’s chosen people.”
Christian Response: God’s covenant in Christ extends salvation to all who believe, Jew and Gentile alike (Ephesians 2:11–22; Romans 10:12). The idea that only one ethnic group can be saved is a perversion of God’s promise that salvation comes by grace through faith (Romans 3:22).
6. Claim: “The U.S. government and white society are controlled by impostors and oppressors as part of God’s plan.”
Christian Response: Scripture warns against conspiracy thinking and turning God’s Word into human political ideologies (Colossians 2:8). God’s kingdom is spiritual, not nationalistic or racial (John 18:36). Misusing Scripture to justify racial hatred contradicts the command to love your neighbor (Mark 12:31).
7. Claim: “Following the Black Hebrew Israelite teachings is the only way to be righteous before God.”
Christian Response: Righteousness comes only through faith in Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:9; Romans 5:1), not through ethnicity, legalistic observance, or membership in a particular movement. No human organization or race-based ideology can confer salvation.
8. Claim: “The Bible secretly supports our teachings about racial Israelite identity.”
Christian Response: The Bible clearly affirms that God’s promises are fulfilled in Christ and extend to all who believe, not exclusively to one racial group (Galatians 3:26–29). Taking verses out of context to promote a racial agenda misrepresents Scripture and perverts the gospel.
9. Claim: “Other races are spiritually inferior and cannot truly understand God.”
Christian Response: Scripture teaches that all people are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27) and capable of knowing Him through Christ (Romans 1:19–20). Any claim of racial superiority directly contradicts the biblical teaching that God shows no partiality (Acts 10:34–35).
